The Africana collection up close
Africana- n. (used with a pl. verb) Materials, such as books, documents, or art objects, relating to the history or culture of African peoples. (www.thefreedictionary.com)
I created this collection based on descriptions I’d read about African jewelry, before the introduction of European glass beads. I loved the idea of women and men in ropes and ropes of wood beads and made my own interpretation. My favorite without a doubt it is the Nzinga necklace series. Each one is unique but they all add a look of complete…regality. That isn’t a word. I had to make it up because that’s how serious this necklace is- it NEEDS it’s own word.
I talked about my influences before, when I first introduced the Nzinga bracelets Since then, I’ve continued to add to the Africana collection, it is still my favorite.
Live, love, create

Ask me anythingAbsynia, formerly Nubia: On marketing and the consumer
There are things they will teach you in marketing about “universal appeal”, about branding and about selling an ideal.
In fashion and beauty the goal is often to tell the consumer she is incomplete without, she isn’t good enough if she doesn’t have [product here]. Today I heard about single…

Working late, thought I’d share what I’m working on.
I was very inspired by the comments at my last show and I’m working to bring that vibe into my photos and online.
So I bought this very dark lipstick….and had too much time…and so this happened. :/
I’m officially a tumblr model. Where do I get my cut off shorts and vintage boots?
Oh, the earrings are The Diana earrings by Absynia http://www.etsy.com/listing/85128876/the-diana-earrings (Limited edition earrings)
The Lily ring, $10
Sometimes it isn’t technique, sometimes it is this creative …force…inside you that pushes the metal one way, your hand to that bead.
And then someone asks you “how pretty! How did you make it?” You don’t know how to answer with anything other than “I don’t know.”
I’m not a metalsmith nor am I big on metal rings. The Lily ring it seems kinda just came to me. I sat down at my work bench and grabbed this vintage pearl necklace and somehow just saw this.
My favorite part is how the two wires flow away from each other and come back. That happened on it’s own as I made the piece.
